Whether it's a subtle sheen or all-out glitz and glam, metallic finishes will never go out of style in the cake decorating world. All six of these cakes use edible products to create metallic effects.

A Lustrous Finish:

Brushed over the surface of cakes and sugar work, Squires Kitchen lustre dust creates a velvety sheen which is subtle and elegant. To achieve the look, use Squires Kitchen Metallic lustre dust, or Bridal Satin in Alabaster. For added shine, use with Glidesol.

Perfect Painting:

Use the lustre dust to create an edible paint. Mix with clear alcohol that is suitable for consumption such as rum or vodka. To achieve this look, mix squires kitchen confectioners glaze for a glossy finish and use food-grade paintbrushes. Add a decorative touch using moulds.

Touch of Gold:

Edible gold leaf adds a touch of luxury to cakes, cupcakes and desserts. Cover the entire tier to flourish the look or to take it to the next level. To achieve the look, use edible gold leaf transfer sheets or flakes.

Full Moon:

Moon-beam dust do wonders to cakes. In the pot look white but once brushed over a coloured sugar, or sugarpaste they become iridescent, making them perfect for beetles, butterflies, fairy wings, and so much more. To achieve the look, use moon-beam dust on dark sugarpaste and add sheen with Glidesol.

Sequin Shimmer:

It is so easy to make your own edible sequins by mixing metallic dust food colours with melted gelatine. Pour the liquid over a food-grade acetate sheet, allow it to set then peel it away and cut your chosen sequins out. To achieve the look, use metallic lustre dust with melted gelatine with food-grade acetate.

Gradients:

Use metallic dust to create an ombré look. Shake the bottle well and use it as you would any airbrush colour. Make sure you clear everything out with airbrush cleaner once you are done. To achieve the look, use metallic dust and a high powered airbrush.
